Dear 6th Grade Parents,
What a wonderful Catholic Schools Week we have had so far. So many celebrations, activities, and fun! Please remember to dress your child in 80’s clothing tomorrow!!! I have my outfit(s) picked out! Our spirit assembly is tomorrow and it’s going to be great!
Thank You: Thank you so much to everyone who donated to the goodie baskets. I have already heard from a few teacher friends at two different schools how much they LOVED their surprise. Here are a few pictures of the deliveries.
Math (Mrs. C): We finished Chapter 6, Expressions, on Monday and everyone did a great job on the test! We have had 2 ALEKS days in class this week because of our crazy schedule. We will start Chapter 7, Equations, on Monday. Reminder, we have an ALEKS check on Wednesday, February 5th.
Math (Mrs.H): After the ch. 7 test on Monday, we will start our eighth Pre-Algebra chapter: Equations and Inequalities. We will cover many types of solving equations, including rational coefficients, 1-step, 2-step, and variables on each side. We will end this chapter with applying these skills to inequalities. Next week, the students will also get the guidelines for our pi project. Instead of our next ALEKS check (which would begin on 2/6), the students will focus their extra attention on completing their pi projects!
Math (Ms. S): Students completed their mid-chapter Check-In this past week and grades have been posted in PowerSchool as well as returned in person. Students should hold onto this assessment to help them study for the upcoming Chapter Test, which will be Friday, February 14th. Our next Aleks Check-In is Friday, February 7th (1/25-2/6), students must complete 1 hour in these two weeks to receive full credit.
Science: Students will complete a booklet in class to help them discover the features of water biomes (saltwater, freshwater and estuaries).
Students will use their land and water biome booklets to prepare for a test on biomes February 11th.
Social Studies: Next week we will be moving on to Chapter 9 Daily Life in Ancient Egypt. This Chapter will focus on the Egyptian Social Classes. The students did a wonderful job on their pyramids!!! They were very creative!!!
ELA: We are still enjoying The Giver with many class discussions and activities. Today students took part in a “Seeing Beyond” activity. Many students were successful in spotting the 3-D images, and a few were not. Please be sure to remind your child to keep up with the reading assignments and comprehension questions for The Giver. They should also be studying their vocabulary words too. We have a test every week or two on both vocabulary and comprehension.
Religion: Religion: We will wrap – up our discussion on the Ten Commandment. Sixth graders will explore on God’s Wisdom as we talk about the Wisdom books in chapter 8.
